John Denver became a star through the folk-inspired songs he composed, the majority of which are situated in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was born in Roswell in New Mexico. He fell in love with Colorado and moved to Aspen. Denver's anthems for his adopted state have attracted many people to Colorado. G. Brown of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame states it is true that John Denver is unlike any other performer who has the recognizable image of Colorado. Denver was a member of the Hall of Fame as its the first member in 2011. Denver is today Colorado's international image. Certainly in my travels you come across someone on the opposite end of the planet, or someone of New Zealand and you say "I'm from Colorado and the first thing out of their mouth is Oh John Denver! Brown clarified. Take Me Home Country Roads was one of Denver's top 10 hits following a performance with a smaller folk groups. It was co-written by and performed by Bill Danoff. Danoff was credited with Johnny Cash as the inspiration for the tune, however Denver realized that it could turn into a hit once it was discovered that an earlier version.
